Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Luke 7: 44-46

I wonder how Simon the Pharisee responded – we are not told. His secret, legalistic cynicism had been brought out into the open and exposed for what it was: small minded and belittling. Jesus, by contrast, demonstrated a big heartededness that brought new life, hope and gratitude. The Pharisee saw an unworthy prostitute. He was blind to what Jesus saw – a lost soul who would be transformed by love.  How will I see the people around me today?

Father God, may I be a bringer of hope from despair; freedom from bondage; joy from anxiety; love from indifference; life from death … that many may find You, the source of all things good. Enable me to be that person. Amen
