Day 81 – Life Rules

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” [Luke 6:37-38]

Having established the principle of seeing life through the eyes of those around us, rather than just our own, Jesus sets out some practical examples of the do’s and don’t’s that those in His Kingdom will find governing their lives – our life rules.

The flip side of each exhortation, of course, is an indication of what we will receive from God, not necessarily from those around us. Nevertheless, we do these things anyway, as it should be God we are seeking to please, not onlookers. And when we do, we will find our lives becoming as abundant and fragrant as the wisteria pictured.

With the measure you use, it will be measured to you

Do not judge and you will not be judged

Forgive and you will be forgiven

Prayer:

Father God, so fill me with the Holy Spirit that, like Jesus, I might overflow, abundantly and fragrantly, with your goodness and love for others, friends and “enemies” alike. Amen.
