Day 67 – Walk The Walk

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralysed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.” [Luke 5:21-26]

These verses speak for themselves. Jesus proved the reality of His claims by His actions. He didn’t just talk the talk; He walked the walk. (If you’ll forgive the flimsy pun)

How about you and me? Do we allow ourselves to get tangled up with argument about who we are “In Christ”. (It might not even get beyond an argument with ourselves!) Or do we step out of our comfort zone, own our new status as redeemed children of a Heavenly Father and live accordingly – boldly going where our adopted brother, Jesus leads us?

The twist in the tail is that, whilst we’re weighing up whether we want to be challenged on who we think we are, others will be losing out on Jesus’s transforming power entering their lives. The more we exercise the authority given us, the greater the number of (metaphoric) walking sticks that will be discarded.

I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins

Prayer:

Father God, please open my eyes to who I am “In Christ Jesus” and give me confidence to act accordingly – that others may encounter your transforming power. Amen.
