Day 50 – Who’s In Control?

“Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.” [Luke 4:14-15]

You and I are clearly not Jesus. He was a One-off, the unique Son of God. But His followers are called to be like Him and to live like Him. If we stay close enough to Him and are filled, as He was, with the power of the Holy Spirit, our lives will increasingly resemble His. If we are bold enough to allow our faith in Jesus to be expressed outwardly to the world around us (and not kept nervously inside), news will spread that here is a person to be paid attention to.

As we will see, the result of this ebbed and flowed in Jesus’ ministry. Today they praised Him, soon they are trying to kill Him. We should expect something similar if we hand the controls of our life to Him.

Holy Spirit, come fill me and take control of my life

Prayer:

Father God, I want to be bold enough not just to ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but to be directed by Him. I realise that may take me to some difficult places as well as happy ones … but that was the path Jesus took, and I am seeking to follow Him. Holy Spirit, come fill me and take control of my life. Amen.
