But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!” They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this. Luke 22:21-23
Interesting that it wasn’t obvious to the apostles who the betrayer was. Instructive that Jesus knew, yet accepted having him as one of the twelve.
He knew because it had been revealed to Him by the Father: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. John 5:19
He accepted because it was His Father’s perfect will: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Consequently, Jesus was prepared to give His life, and so should we, as our act of worship: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1
Self and collusion lead to treachery and injustice. Revelation and obedience lead to transformation and worship.
Father God, it is my hearts desire to honour You. Protect me from my instinctive selfishness and worldliness, that I might seek Your purposes and pursue them wholeheartedly. Amen
