Day 265 – Daily Priority

Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple. Luke 21:37-38

I wonder if Jesus ever got frustrated at the chasm between the way of the world and the Way of His Father? More specifically, did He ever wonder if His way of life was so different to the self indulgence around Him, that he felt irrelevant? I don’t know the answer, of course, although I suspect Jesus might have had more questions than we think, for we are told: We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15

We are given an insight into how Jesus dealt with the pressures of life immediately before He was betrayed: He withdrew to spend time with His Father. After days of intense engagement with the people around Him, He needed respite, refocus and recharging to set Him up for the next day.

If you and I, likewise, are to be (and stay) relevant to the everyday challenges we face, we will need to spend time with our Father – every day.

“I’m so busy, how will I find the time?” I hear you think. The more tense life becomes, the greater the need to be in tune with our Maker. “Too busy not to pray” is the title of a book by Bill Hybels. If the Saviour of the World reckoned He needed to take time out each day to be with His Father, I reckon it needs to become a daily priority for me.

Father God, I understand how important it is to spend time with You each day. Doing it, though, is not easy. Please help me. Amen
