Day 262 – Secure in His Love

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly  bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Luke 21:25-28

It’s tempting to allow apprehension to creep through us as we ponder the uncertainty triggered by these words of Jesus. It’s tempting to imagine what it will look like, and inevitably our thoughts will be coloured with apocalyptic imagery from blockbuster movies. It’s tempting to feel helpless in the face of forces much greater than ourselves.

Helpless, though, we are not. God has invited us to trust in Him, not in ourselves. He has sent His Son, the very Person speaking these words, to rescue us from the cataclysmic times that do indeed lie ahead.

If we will but place our lives in His care and control, we need not fear His return to Earth, when He will judge all that we have been and done. We can stand secure in His love, confident that we will be welcomed home. We can lift up our heads, not hide in fear. For perfect love (love of the Perfect One) casts out fear.

Father God, we do not know the time or hour, but we know that Jesus will return to Earth. Thank you that I can place my life, my future in His hands, today, and know that I can stand secure in Your love. Amen.
