Day 259 – Bold Enough to Testify

Then Jesus said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. “But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. And so you will bear testimony to me. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. Luke 21:10-15

Challenging contemporary western society, large swathes of which have little truck with the Christian faith, is not easy. But those who name Jesus as Lord need to be doing just that, if they are to be the salt and light that their leader called them to be, thereby preventing the world sliding into decay and darkness.

You are the salt of the earth. … You are the light of the world. … let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13,14,16

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  John 3:19

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:6

We must not be frightened of speaking truth. However, we should not wait until we feel we have worked out the best words to speak powerfully of a holy God, yet lovingly to fallen mankind.

If we are bold enough to testify to the saving grace of Jesus, He will give us the words and the wisdom we need.

Prayer:

Father God, speak through me, today and every day, words full of grace, yet seasoned with salt, that men and women might be pointed to You. Amen
