Day 202 – Celebrate

‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ Luke 15:31-32

There’s something tragically small in the older brother’s angry response; and gloriously generous in the father’s.

If we look at life’s situations through a worldly lens, we will always find  a reason to doubt, to reject, to feel miffed about things. They’re not fair. This is the route to death.

If we ask God to open our eyes to things as He perceives them, we will see hope, acceptance, love. Still not fair! But this is the gracious route to new life in Christ.

If we take the plunge and decide to side with God – it is a step called faith, as it cannot be proved “right” – my own experience tells me that, through all the many ups and downs of life, it is the same better choice that we considered yesterday.

And the unwarranted grace that the younger brother experienced can be ours as well. And needs celebrating accordingly. Light those fireworks!

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found. Was blind, but now I see. Amen and Hallelujah!
