Day 111 – Time to Take Stock

Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left. The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him. Luke 8:37-39

The Gerasenes were left with the good news of Jesus, but not the man Himself. They couldn’t cope with Him. We considered yesterday that Jesus is a dangerous person to have around. Am I attracted by the idea of Jesus, but not His teaching? Do I want religion, with all its trappings, but not relationship, with all its demands? Do I want out, when He beckons me further in?

Many of those walking with Jesus fell away as they realised the true cost of following Him. “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.” (John 6:66)

It’s time to take stock of my walk with Jesus. Is it authentic? What is the cost? Am I prepared to pay the price?

My salvation is free. My discipleship will cost me everything.

Jesus, I come before you. Please show me if my walk with You is real. Gently, please.
